Val Thorens begins high in the mountains, around 2,300 m, with the Val Thorens–Orelle ski area reaching above 3,200 m. It is also part of Les 3 Vallées. The local Val Thorens–Orelle map and the larger linked-area map answer different questions: where to ski nearby, and how to travel farther across the valleys.
This page starts at 2,303 m, already a mountain elevation. Comparing its snowfall total with a lower resort’s base forecast without checking altitude can be misleading. For a fairer comparison, examine the elevations you actually plan to use. Even here, the upper terrain can have different temperatures and wind from the selected base point.
Fresh snow is only one part of the day’s outlook. During an active weather episode, examine wind and cloud alongside snowfall, then check current cameras and lift information. A large accumulation does not tell you whether a high connection will operate. For an excursion into the wider 3 Vallées, use the published connection schedules to plan the return; the weather model does not know your route or the last lift time.
