Ischgl shares the Silvretta Arena with Samnaun in Switzerland, so a ski day can cross an international border without leaving the ski area. The official resort information gives an altitude range of 1,377–2,872 m. This vertical range is more useful for reading a weather forecast than treating the entire area as one location.
Our default forecast point is at 1,379 m, near the lower end of that range. Before interpreting the snowfall figure, check the selected elevation: the temperature and precipitation type at this point may differ from those on the upper slopes. For a mountain day, compare a higher forecast point with the lower one, especially when the freezing level lies between them.
Look at when precipitation arrives, not just the total for the day. A late snowfall may have little bearing on the morning’s skiing. GFS and ECMWF can also place the same weather system at different times. Use their comparison alongside the operator’s current lift and piste information when planning a route towards Samnaun; a forecast is not confirmation that a connection is open.
