Sölden’s ski map separates Gaislachkogl, Giggijoch and the glacier areas of Rettenbach and Tiefenbach. These names are useful for planning, not just orientation: a day on Giggijoch and an outing to the glaciers involve different terrain and access routes. The operator’s map shows the connection between the two glaciers as well as the routes back towards the valley.
The default forecast point here is at 1,346 m. It should not be used as a substitute for the weather at a glacier lift or an upper mountain station. Before comparing a snowfall total with a high webcam, select a matching elevation. The selected height is displayed with the forecast so that comparisons between GFS and ECMWF can use the same reference.
In autumn or spring, check which sectors are operating rather than assuming that an open glacier means the full winter network is open. Plan the ascent and descent from the current lift map and schedules. For the weather itself, look at how conditions change through the day; a morning snowfall followed by warmer temperatures is a different outlook from snow arriving after the skiing day has ended.
