長野県の白馬八方尾根には、1998年の冬季オリンピックでアルペンスキー競技に使われたコースがあります。公式コースガイドでは、オリンピックコースと初心者向けエリア、その他のコースが区別されています。上部のリフトは標高約1,830 mまで達し、山麓とは異なる山の環境になります。
オリンピックの名はスキー場の歴史を示すもので、すべてのコースの難易度が同じという意味ではありません。現在のコースガイドでルートを選び、迂回路が示されている場合はその位置も確認しましょう。技術レベルが異なるグループでは、全員が同じコースを下るとは限らないため、上がる前に集合場所を決めておくと便利です。
SnowReportMeteoの初期設定は標高749 mの低い地点です。上部リフト付近で滑るなら、その場所に合った標高を選び、降雪量だけでなく風や雲の予報も確認してください。山麓の気温だけでは上部の天候は分かりません。予報とあわせて公式の運行情報やライブカメラを見ることが大切です。下部が営業していても、上部のすべてのコースが利用できるとは限りません。
